WITH GSLV-D5, INDIA JOINS CRYO CLUB

The Indian Space Research Organisaton (ISRO) on 5th January has successfully launched the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle-D5 (GSLV-D5) carrying 198 kg communication satellite GSAT-14, from Srihari Kota, Andhra Pradesh and placing it in orbit at an apogee of 36,000 kms above earth. D5 stands for the 5th development flight.
The GSLV is a 3-stage engine rocket. Its first stage is fired with solid fuel, the second stage with liquid fuel and the third is the cryogenic engine. With this GSLV-D5, India joined the "cryo club".
